Yum Cha, Chocolate and Henri...

A delightful Saturday spent celebrating my mum's 59th birthday.... So mum wanted lunch so off to Yum Cha we went..... I must say yum cha is my ultimate meal, you can eat steamed and all is served with tea!!! Yum cha meaning to drink tea, what a fabulous idea..... if only all meals were like that! After that mum wanted gelati but as it was soooo cold a hot chocolate was decided upon from my ideal destination- Koko Black... click on the link and begin to drool!

-Here are the 3 hot chocolate combinations you can have- cinnamon, chilli and dark chocolate.....

But we all know that dark chocolate can never be compromised and that plain is best.... OK maybe coffee can make an appearance sometimes but never in a Koko Black hot chocolate... an experience worth savouring....

Here is my baby, the most photographed dog in the west! I can' help myself, testing black and white shots of the style king himself- Henri!

First Week of Bliss

Working at a school that has begun holidays this week compared to other state and catholic schools is bliss...... That means that shopping centres are still empty, so is the cinema and the streets are not jammed full of kids who are on the lookout for entertainment!!!! Oh the divine nature of it all.... Which means I was totally indulged with a viewing of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian". Click on the link an be taken straight to the official website. It was just awesome, love every second of it, a fabulous movie, violent for a kids movie but wonderful none the less.... A must see if you loved the first installment.... that means i can't wait for the next one!Though i have many spare hours, i now can just surf the Internet and check some of my fav and wonderful blogs and sites.... This is one of my favs- One Red Robin. Always inspirational and extremely talented... I loved some of the fabric designs, check them out.....
How cute are these! I think they are just beautiful..... just to see and to dream......Happy Holidays!

Symmetry and Balance...

Another fine week even if it was short, however i did have to share this. After all the mask making with my Year 4's i really needed to drill the home the idea about symmetry, balance and colour. So this was what i decided that we would tackle next.

Above is my example of a symmetrical collage- mask. Below are the fabulous works of my talented Year 4 students.... lets me know what you think? I believe that they easily breezed through the task!

This one above is particularly clever one!

Gosh my occupation brings surprises around every corner....

Two Works Make Me Smile...

Two works that still stick in my mind after viewing them at the "Turner to Monet" exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia are:
Vincent Van Gogh- "Tree Trunks in the Grass"- 1890
Alfred Sisley-"Path at Les Sablons"-1883Both were just spectacular in real life. The computer screen just mutes the colours. Each oil painting is still vibrant even after after a century. The green textured stokes of oil paint in Van Gogh's grass just shines like emeralds and wants to be touched. While Alfred Sisley's path just wants to be meandered upon....Both would be just sublime to hang on my walls.....

A Weekend At The NGA!

After a wonderful trip to Canberra, I was luckily enough to be indulged by my wonderful better half and was taken to view the "Turner to Monet" exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia. It was beautiful except for the dreadfully long lines of eager art viewers lined up to see the exhibition on the closing weekend! But in line I was still able to see the Matisse, Giorgio Morandi- "Still Life", Jackson Pollock- Blue Poles, and a few other beauties. Turner to Monet was a homage to landscape so there were many wonderful masterpieces. William Turner, John Constable, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Alfred Sisley, Casper David Friedrich and Paul Cezanne to name a few.
I had never been to the National Gallery of Australia- NGA, but the Giorgio Morandi was very special.

Giorgio Morandi-"Still Life" oil on canvas -1956.

Though one highlight were the Casper David Friedrich's that the Turner to Monet exhibition had. I had never seen an original here in Australia so they were unbelievable!

Man and Woman Contemplating the Moon, 1830-1835.

A fascinating weekend and a mind blowing way to expand your mind! Spending any time in a gallery with priceless artworks hanging on it's walls is always a dream.
